41 gun salute

April 21st, 2012

A 41-gun salute was hosted at Hyde Park London at 12.00 noon, and a 62-gun salute at the Tower of London an hour later. The salute fired by King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery was to mark the Queens actual birth date of 21 April.

Althought the Queen’s official birthday is celebrated in June each year, her actual birth date is 21st April.

In London, salutes are fired in Hyde Park and at The Tower of London. There is a 41-gun salute at 12.00 noon in Hyde Park London and a 62-gun salute at the Tower of London an hour later. Viewers at the Tower of London and Hyde Park can also watch the admirable Artillery Company and the King’s Group Royal Horse Artillery dressed up in prestigious traditional ceremonial dress in a display that echoes Britain’s powerful past.

The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery is Her Majesty The Queen’s ceremonial Saluting Battery stationed at Woolwich, London. Known as ‘The Troop’ it is a mounted unit and all of its soldiers are superb equestrians trained to drive a team of six horses that pull the ‘thirteen pounder’ state saluting gun. The Troop comprises 7 officers, 164 soldiers and 111 trained horses. They received their title in 1947.
